The Rota Ooh Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild presents players with an engaging environmental physics puzzle named the Passing of the Gates trial. Located within the scenic fields of Central Hyrule, this shrine tests Link's ability to manipulate rotating mechanisms and time precision bow shots. Mastering this trial allows players to claim valuable treasure alongside a coveted Spirit Orb to aid their journey across Hyrule.

Finding the Rota Ooh Shrine Location

Navigating to the Rota Ooh Shrine is relatively straightforward for adventurers exploring Central Hyrule. The shrine sits on a grassy hill nestled just west of the Outskirt Stable and slightly northwest of the Great Plateau. Players can easily reach the site by gliding northwest from the Great Plateau's edge or traveling southwest along the road from Central Tower.

Unlike several other shrines scattered throughout Hyrule, unlocking the entrance requires no exterior quest or hidden key. Adventurers can walk directly up to the pedestal and activate the terminal to begin the trial immediately. Finding this location early provides a convenient fast-travel point near key region landmarks.

Solving the Passing of the Gates Mechanism

Upon stepping into the Rota Ooh Shrine, players encounter a large central structure controlled by a blue crystal switch. Striking the crystal switch with an arrow causes the entire room's mechanism to rotate ninety degrees. Following the newly accessible path to the left leads to a chest containing a Small Key needed for the central locked door.

After unlocking the door to retrieve the Ancient Orb, players must return to the central hub and reset the mechanism. Throwing the orb into the mesh basket attached to the structure allows it to drop into its proper altar socket when rotated again. Securing the orb in its place activates a powerful vertical launcher platform in the center of the room.

Collecting Chest Rewards and Reaching the Monk

Before completing the trial, players should utilize the launch platform to gather the hidden treasure chest. Riding the launch upward and deploying the Paraglider allows Link to glide toward a high ledge containing a Feathered Edge sword. This lightweight weapon provides high attack speed and great utility during early combat encounters.

To reach Monk Rota Ooh, step back onto the launch platform to get propelled high into the air once more. While airborne, draw your bow to enter slow-motion focus and shoot the crystal switch one final time. The structure will shift into a ramp, offering a clear path to walk up and receive the Spirit Orb.
